If Sagittarius is boisterous and bold, Capricorn is reserved and contained. It grounds and stabilizes the big ideas and expansion of its predecessor. Sober and serious, Capricorns can feel like the kills-joys of the zodiac, especially after all the jolly, jubilant, joviality of Sagittarius.
Capricorns are naturally cautious, and can tend to be a bit conservative and withheld. One thing is for sure, Capricorns come in with a hefty sense of responsibility. In it’s shadow, this can express itself as a burdened/enduring character strategy – long suffering, heavy, deprived and self-sacrificing.
In our pleasure-seeking, fun-loving, instant-gratification culture, it could be easy to miss what is elevated about this archetype, but there is a lot of value here. Capricorn gifts include maturity, integrity, mastery and discipline. Capricorns can also be irreverent, ironic and hilariously funny, equipped with a wry wit and a sharp tongue.
I’ve been deeply contemplating what Capricorn (guardian of the sacred cross-quarterly threshold of the Winter Solstice) has to do with the return of the Light. And it occurred to me that what we are truly responsible for is the care and tending of our own Inner Light, and for restoring the Light to our world. This is the real sacred imperative of the Goat.
It’s so easy to take on responsibilities thoughtlessly, to become mired by our commitments, and end up feeling crushed by the weight of our world. But if we could feel into the deeper nature of our obligation, we’d find that it’s the cultivation, maintenance and sharing of our Inner Light with the world that matters most. It’s through this process that we illuminate and restore the world during this darkest time of year.
So this month, in holy, devotional feeding of the Capricorn energy, I invite you to recommit to your Light. Do it knowing that there are a million ways to access and attend to your Light, and that the sheer willingness to engage in this process is monumental.
And if you want help getting clear about ways that you can nurture your unique spark, reach out to me for a session and we’ll come up with some ideas together.
May the Grace within you shine through you forever more. Sat Nam.
